NEET-UG 2026 Cutoff Analysis — What Your Score Actually Means

Translate your NEET score into realistic college options — by category, by state, and by quota type.

By SG Education Counselling Team

Your NEET score is just a number until you map it against the cutoff landscape. Different scores open completely different doors — and most online calculators give generic answers that don't account for state, category, or quota type. This guide walks through how to read your NEET score realistically.

The cutoff hierarchy (lowest to highest score required)

  1. NRI quota in deemed universities — lowest cutoff (often 250+ NEET)
  2. Management quota in private medical colleges — slightly higher (300+ NEET)
  3. Private state quota (domicile required) — varies by state, typically 400+ NEET
  4. Deemed MBBS via MCC — 450+ NEET for mid-tier deemed
  5. Government MBBS via AIQ 15% — 580+ NEET for state government colleges
  6. AIIMS / JIPMER / state-quota in premier government colleges — 650+ NEET

These are 2025 ranges. 2026 actuals depend on NEET difficulty and overall applicant performance.

Score-band → realistic college options

NEET 250–350

NRI quota in selected deemed universities (lower-tier deemed) and private medical colleges in less-competitive states (Bihar, MP NRI 3rd round). Total programme cost will be in the higher NRI band (₹80 L–₹1.3 cr). Strong private medical college Management quota at tier-2/3 Karnataka colleges.

NEET 350–450

Broader NRI quota options across multiple deemed universities (MGM tier campuses, BVP Sangli, Krishna Karad, Datta Meghe). Management quota at most Karnataka private medical colleges. Some state private quota options in MP (NRI 3rd round), Bihar (NRI), Telangana (Cat B Management).

NEET 450–550

Strong deemed university options open — MGM Navi Mumbai, DY Patil all 4 campuses, BVP Pune, Symbiosis SMCW Pune, Manipal Tata Jamshedpur, KLE colleges, JSS Mysore. Private state quota in your home state becomes a realistic backup. State quota in MP, Telangana, AP government colleges (with domicile).

NEET 550–650

AIQ 15% in government medical colleges becomes realistic. State quota in your home state for premier state government MBBS. Top-tier deemed seats (Manipal MAHE Manipal, MGM Aurangabad/Navi Mumbai prime branches).

NEET 650+

AIIMS / JIPMER / premier government college tier becomes accessible. State quota at top colleges in any state. Most families at this score range optimize for the lowest-fee government college via merit.

Category multiplier

If you're SC/ST/OBC, the cutoffs above shift roughly 50-80 points lower. EWS gets a smaller shift. Specific category cutoffs vary year-on-year — confirm with your state's published category-wise cutoff.

Frequently asked questions

Is NEET score enough to predict admission?

No. NEET score + state + category + quota type + budget combined determine realistic options. Generic 'NEET predictors' usually miss multiple of these dimensions.

Does NEET score validity differ by quota?

No. The same NEET score is used across AIQ, state quota, deemed, NRI quota, and Management quota — only the cutoff thresholds differ.

Should I retake NEET to improve my score?

Depends on your current score, time/financial cost of a year, and improvement potential. We help families think through this during counselling — not a one-line answer.
